The melody, which has a Scottish provenance, appears under this title in William Vickers' 1770 Northumbrian music manuscript [1]. Unfortunately, almost nothing is known about Vickers. There are many variants in both Scotland and Ireland (see notes for "annotation:Youngest Daughter (1) (The)" and "Annotation:Hopetoun House").
