LISHMAN'S SECOND HORNPIPE.AKA - "Lishman's 2nd Hornpipe." English, Hornpipe (cut time). England, Cumberland. B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. This unnamed hornpipe is contained in Book 13 (No. 81) of the Browne Family music manuscript collection, Troutbeck, Lake District, Cumberland. The book is thought to contain tunes entered by James Lishman, and, in modern times the hornpipe has been named for him (see "James Lishman's Hornpipe" for the first tune his name was bestowed upon). John Offord (2018) notes similiarites with "Watson's Hornpipe", another unnamed hornpipe in the copybook of Norfolk musician George Watson (c. 1880), and with the country dance "Saturday Night (6)" in Lancashire musician James Winder's c. 1835-41 music manuscripts. Neither tune cited is cognate, but may have common ancestors: there is superficial resemblance to "Watson's", while Winder's tune is similar in the first strain.
