The Lord Chief Baron was the title for the Chief Baron of the Exchequer of Great Briton,who presided in the equity court andspoke for the court in legal proceedings.Practically speaking, he held the most important office of the Exchequer of Pleas. At the time Mackintosh published his Fourth Collection (c. 1804) the Lord Chief Baron was Scottish lawyer, judge and politician Wikipedia:Sir_Archibald_Macdonald,_1st_Baronet (1747-1826). Mackintosh also included tunes for members of Sir Archibald's family in his collection.
