LORD DUMFRIES'S BOWLING GREEN. AKA and see "Dumfries Bowling Green." Scottish, Jig (6/8 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDD. John Glen (1891) finds the earliest appearance of this tune in print in John Riddell's 1782 second collection (p. 15). Although Riddell was a fiddler, the tune and variations seem arranged for the pipes. A bowling green was an essential feature for a fashionable estate.
