LOWE'S HORNPIPE. Scottish, Hornpipe. B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by Biography:William Marshall (1748-1833). Moyra Cowie (The Life and Times of William Marshall, 1999) believes that the title may refer to Joseph Lowe (1791-1866), a musician and dancing teacher who published a collection of dance tunes. Lowe was for a time the leader of the orchestra at the Northern Meeting in Inverness, supported by Jane Maxwell, the Duchess of Gordon, and Marshall's employer. See also Marshall's "Miss Euphemia Lowe's Jig" perhaps written for a relation of Joseph's.
