LOYAL FARMERS. Scottish, Strathspey. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB'. Composed by Biography:John Bowie, of Huntingtower, near Perth, and published in Edinburgh by him around 1797 in a small folio entitled Four new tunes, with the addition of the old sett of The Braes of Marr. This may be this same tune as "The Loyal Farmer" printed in the Thomas Calvert's Collection of Marches & Quick Steps, Strathspeys & Reels (printed by Neil Stewart in 1799[1], assembled by Thomas Calvert, a musician of Kelso, Scotland). A note with the collection states that Calvert supplied "a variety of music and instruments, instruments lent out, tun'd and repaired." Calvert's title for the tune is singular, "The Loyal Farmer."
