LUSTIAN'S REEL. AKA and see "Aldridge's Rant," "Now is the Time," "Scotch Reel (7) (A)." American (?), Reel (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCC. Howe's title may be American, but the tune itself is an old one with antecedents in Scotland, England and Ireland; see "annotation:Humors of Ballyconnell (1) (The)" for more. It is contained in the 1760's music manuscript collection of Cumbrian musician Joseph Barnes as the generically-titled "Scotch Reel (7) (A)." A version almost identical to Howe's was printed in Coes Album of Jigs and Reels (1876) under the title "Now is the Time," attributed to Hirschel Fenton.
