MADAM SYLVAIN. AKA and see "Radford Hornpipe." Scottish, Hornpipe. E Flat. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The tune was published in Scottish fiddle-composer J. Scott Skinner's Scottish Violinist (1900) without composer credits. Since Skinner claimed numerous other tunes in the collection, it seems clear he is not the composer of this tune. It is predated by its inclusion as "Radford Hornpipe" in the Ellis Knowles Manuscript, selection of tunes collected c. 1845-48 probably in Radcliffe, Lancashire, England.
