MADGE ("FAREWELL TO SCOTLAND"). AKA - "Farewell to Scotland." Scottish, Song Air (6/8 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. Composed by J. Scott Skinner (1843-1927).

J. Scott Skinner

According to the University of Aberdeen's J. Scott Skinner site, the violinist was forced into bankruptcy in the mid-1880's, and contemplated emigrating. He even gave a farewell concert at The Music Hall, Aberdeen, in 1886, in which he played this tune, with the title "Scott Skinner's Farewell to Scotland." The tune was later renamed "Madge", set to words by William Martin.
