MADISON'S WHIM. American, Jig. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). The tune appears in Philadelphia, Pa., publisher John Carr's First Book of Cotillions (1801), and was also printed in John Paff's The Gentlemens Amusement No. 2 (New York, 1812, p. 8). The title may refer to American President James Madison [1] (1751-1836), who held office from 1809 to 1817.
