MALHEUREUSE, LA. AKA - "Waltz de Bascom Mouton." Cajun, Waltz. USA; Vermilion Parish, Louisiana. D Mixolydian ('A' part) & D Major ('B' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'. The tune begins on the subdominent chord ('G'), but resolves to 'D' Major. This waltz comes from the area around Vermilion Parish, south of Lafayette, Louisiana, according to David Greeley, who thinks accordion tunes from that area were influenced relatively more by the fiddle than in the prairie regions of Cajun country.
