MARCHE DES MARSEILLOIS. AKA - "Marseillois Hymn." French, March (whole time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. The march and air appear on a few period songsheets in the United States, and also in John Watlen's A Collection of Celebrated Marches & Quick Steps (Edinburgh, 1796, pp. 10-11), and the Parisian publication Recueil de Petits Airs, vol. 1 (c. 1800, p. 4). "La Marseillaise", the song the march is based on, was written by the composer Rouget de Lisle in 1792 and was quickly adopted as the French national anthem.
