MARTHA WASHINGTON Waltz. Old-Time, March. C Major. A waltz that central New York state fiddler Chad Miller learned from western New York fiddler Mark Hamilton at the Fiddler's Fair Festival in Mumford. "I brought it home and now it seems to be one of our 'standard' tunes." There is a "Martha Washington March" composed by H. Schwing, printed by George Willig in Baltimore in 1854 and "most respectfully inscribed to Revd. W.D. Jones D.D., President of the Martha Washington College, Abingdon, Va." Perhaps the waltz was also associated with the college.
