MARTIN ROCHEFORD'S (REEL) [2]. Irish, Reel. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'B. Martin Rocheford (1916-2000) was originally from Bodyke, East County Clare Born near Bodyke in East Clare in 1916, and began learning fiddle at the age of ten, influenced by local musicians who had been students of blind fiddle master Paddy McNamara. Later Rocheford took up the uilleann pipes. The Clare Champion wrote of him in their obituary: “He never regarded his heritage as his own private property but rather as something which he should encourage and pass on. To this end he was always willing to meet fellow musicians to teach and write tunes and his house was a Mecca for lovers of Irish music worldwide.” [quoted in Fintan Vallely's The Companion to Irish Traditional Music].
