MAZURKA DE LA LOUISIANE. Cajun, Mazurka (3/4 time). USA, Louisiana. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. Raymond Francois (1990) states that the mazurka is no longer danced in Cajun Louisiana, though some of the tunes survive among older musicians. In fact, he said his mother remembers her mother demonstrating it at a family dance without a partner, as no-one else knew the steps. There are several "Mazurka da la Louisane" (Louisiana Mazurka, a generic title) tunes and recordings, including a 78 RPM era release by The Breaux Fréres.
