MERRY MEETING [1], THE. Scottish, Jig (6/8 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody was entered by Edinburgh musician and writing master David Young into his MacFarlane Manuscript (c. 1740, p. 257), compiled for his patron, Sir Walter MacFarlan of MacFarlane. Twenty years later "Merry Meeting" was published, with variation sets, in James Oswald's Caledonian Pocket Companion, Book 7 (1760).
