MILKMAID'S BOB, THE. AKA - "Milke-Mayd's Bobb (The)." English, Jig. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. The melody and country dance steps appear in John Playford's The English Dancing Master [1] (1651), and were retained in the long-running series through the 10th edition of 1698. English collector Cecil Sharp substituted this tune for the Playford dance "Oaken Leaves" (see "Oaken Leaves (2)"), a pairing that has occasionally resulted in the tune "Milkmaid's Bob" being called by the name of the dance.
