MILLER'S RANT [2]. Scottish, English; Country Dance Tune (6/8 time). England, Yorkshire. A Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody appears in Glasgow publisher James Aird's Selection of Scotch, English, Irish and Foreign Airs, vol. 1 (1782), and in the c. 1812 music manuscript collection of Yorkshire fiddler William Calvert. The first strain is shared with the version of "Miller's Rant" in the collection of another Yorkshire fiddler, Lawrence Leadley, who compiled his manuscripts beginning in the late 1830's, however Leadley's second strain is different.

Source for notated version: an MS collection by fiddler Lawrence Leadley, 1827-1897 (Helperby, Yorkshire) [Merryweather & Seattle].

Printed sources: Aird (Selection of Scotch, English, Irish and Foreign Airs, vol. 1), 1782; No. 46, p. 16. Merryweather & Seattle (The Fiddler of Helperby), 1994; No. 77, p. 47.
