MINSTREL'S FANCY. AKA - "Minstrel's Favourite," "Minstrel's Hornpipe." AKA and see "Buck From the Mountain (The)," "Clog du couronnement" (Coronation Clog), "McElligott's Fancy," "Pioneer Clog (The)," "Hanover Hornpipe." Scottish, English, Canadian, American; Hornpipe or Clog. USA, New England. Canada; Prince Edward Island, Ontario. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Minstrel's Fancy" is a hornpipe that can be found under a variety of titles. "Minstrel's Fancy" is the name it goes by in Ryan's Mammoth (1883) and Kerr's Merry Melodies (c. 1880's), publications that were widely disseminated. O'Neill printed the tune as "McElligott's Fancy." It was recorded in the 78 RPM era by flute player John McKenna under the title "Buck From the Mountain (The)," and by Albert Allard in Montreal for Starr Records in 1937 as "Clog du couronnement" (Coronation Clog). It can be found elsewhere as an untitled hornpipe (Bayard, P.D. Reidy). See note for "annotation: McElligott's Fancy" for more.
