MISS BALCARRES LINDSAY'S FAVOURITE. Scottish, Country Dance (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'. Composed by Biography:William Shepherd (c. 1760-1812), perhaps for one of the daughters of British Army general Alexander Lindsay, 6th Earl of Balcarres (1752-1825) and his wife, Elizabeth Dalrymple (1759-1816). In addition to four sons, the couple had two daughers, Lady Elizabeth Lindsay (1781-1825) and Lady Anne Lindsay (1787-1846). Elizabeth would have been aged 12 and Anne aged six at the time Shepherd published his tunes, although it was not unknown for fiddler-composers to name tunes for the younger children of those whom they were seeking patronage from. British Army general (1752-1825)
