MISS JEAN ROBERTSON’S REEL. Scottish, Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. "Miss Jean Robertson's Reel" was composed by Perthshire fiddler-composer John Clark, printed in 1795 by Anderson's music shop in his volume A Collection of New Strathspey Reels and Country Dances. The melody was printed a few years later by Glasgow publisher James Aird in his Selection of Scotch, English, Irish and Foreign Airs, vol. 5 (Glasgow, 1797, p. 13). It appears in the music manuscript copybook of John Burks, dated 1821, as “Miss Jane Robertson’s Reel.” Unfortunately, as with John Clark, nothing is known of Burks, although he may have been from the north of England.
