John Glen (1891) finds the earliest appearance of this tune in print in Joshua Campbell's Collection of Newest and Best Reels and Minuets (1778, p. 59) as "Miss Jessy Campbell." Robert Petrie published the reel in his Third Collection of Strathspey Reels (1802) as "Miss Kinloch's Reel."
