MISS KINLOCH'S MINUET. Scottish, Minuet. E Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by Johann Georg Christoph Schetky (1737-1824). The German musician Schetky wrote this minuet soon after coming to Edinburgh in 1772 to take a position as the Musical Society's principal cellist. Although he seems not to have written dance music prior to this he wrote 12 minuets for upper class girls; Johnson (1984) thinks this tune the equal of the composer's finest chamber music. E Flat was a key gaining much favor on the Continent in the mid 18th century for orchestral music as it was ideal for arranging the various orchestral instruments.
