The tune was earlier published as "Miss Jessy Campbell" in Joshua Campbell's Collection of Newest and Best Reels and Minuets (1778, p. 59), and later appeared in print as "Miss Johnston (3)" in Stewart-Robertson's Athole Collection (1883).
