MISS MACQUEEN'S REEL. Scottish, Strathspey. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB'. Composed by William Marshall (1748-1833), first appearing in his 1781 collection (p. 5). A Scottish fiddler and composer, Marshall is most famous for his many fine strathspeys. Marshall worked for much of his life for the Duke of Gordon as the Steward of his Household, and it is fortunate that the Duke and Duchess were enthusiastic supporters and patrons of Marshall’s music. Miss McQueen lived at Strathdown, now called Strathavon (Cowie, 1999).
