MISS MONTGOMERY'S REEL. Scottish, Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune was first published in John Watlen's The Celebrated Circus Tunes (Edinburgh, 1791), where it is attributed to a "Capt. Callandar." Other tunes in the collection are entitled "Miss Callander’s Minuet" and "Lady Eliza Callander’s Favourite," perhaps for a daughter(s) of the Captain. The tune was reprinted in 1796 by Glasgow publisher James Aird, as were of the many of the tunes from Watlen's collection, with credit to neither composer nor source.
