The tune with directions for a country dance dance was first printed in John Hinton's periodical The Universal Magazine of Knowledge and Pleasure (January, 1755, p. 31), and was subsequently picked up by Charles and Samuel Thompson and printed in their Compleat Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 1 (1757, p. 60), and John Johnson's Two Hundred Favourite Country Dances, vol. 8 (1758, p. 77). The tune has become a favorite in Scottish Country Dancing circles as "Miss Nancy Frowns."
