MISS NELLY FERGUSON. Scottish, Reel (cut time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by Ayrshire fiddler-composer John Riddell. Ferguson is a common name in Ayrshire. A contender for the person of Riddell's title is Helen (Nelly?) Ferguson, daughter of Sir James Ferguson, Bart., of Kilkerran, married in March 1770 Sir James Dalrymple, 2nd Baronet, of Hailes House near Haddington, who was Auditor of the Exchequer in Scotland. She died in 1799. See also Riddell's "Miss Ferguson of Kilkerran."
