MISS PENUEL GRANT OF GRANT'S STRATHSPEY [2]. Scottish, Strathspey (whole time). B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. "Miss Penuel Grant of Grant's Strathspey [2]" was composed by Elgin fiddler-composer biography:Donald Grant and published in his Collection of Strathspeys, Reels, Jigs &c. 'Miss Penuel Grant of Grant' was one of the daughters of Sir James Grant of Grant, Baronet (1738-1811), affectionately known as “the Good Sir James,” was well-educated, well-travelled and certainly the most capable chief of his long line. Her mother was Jane Duff, only daughter and heiress of Alexander Duff by his wife, Lady Anne, eldest daughter of William Duff, first Earl Fife. Sir James and Jane were married in 1763, at Bath. Penuel was born in December, 1779 and died in January, 1844. As with most of her female siblings, she remained unmarried (see note for "annotation:Miss Penuel Grant of Grant's Strathspey (1)").
