MISS SUSANNA BAIRD. Scottish, Reel. E Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by Perthshire musician Malcolm McDonald (b. c. 1750), first appearing in his Collection of Strathspey Reels, vol. 1, dedicated to Mrs. Baird of Newbyth (who may have been Miss Susanna’s mother?). MacDonald's first collection consisted of his own compositions, although subsequent of his collections were largely others' pieces. After the death of Niel Gow's brother Donald, MacDonald played cello for Niel Gow (his neighbor at Inver, Dunkeld).
