MISS YOUNG('S STRATHSPEY--BANFF). Scottish, Strathspey. C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Kerr): AAB (Athole, Marshall). Composed by William Marshall(1748-1833). According to Moyra Cowie (The Life and Times of William Marshall, 1999), Miss Young was the daughter of Archibald Young, the 4th Duke of Gordon’s solicitor in Banff. Marshall would have known them through his position as Steward of the Household for the Duke.
