Back to Montezuma[edit]

MONTEZUMA. American, Hornpipe. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. A title probably inspired by the Mexican-American War. The tune was attributed to a veteran army musician named J.L. Blatchley, Co. E. 2nd N.Y. Heavy Artillery, by A.F. Hopkins, editor of the American Veteran Fifer (1905) (see also "J.L. Blatchley Banter"). Hopkins, however, is inconsistent in his attributions, and what look to be composer credits are often contributor credits.
