MORNING OF LIFE, THE (Maidin na m-beata). AKA and see "In the Morning of Life," "Little Harvest Rose (The)." Irish, Air or Planxty (4/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Francis O'Neill credits the melody to the blind Irish harper Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738), although by what authority it is not known. It was printed in John Thomas Surenne's (1814-1878) Irish Songs without Words in 1854, sans composer attribution, and with the alternate title "Little Harvest-Rose (The)." This latter title was the one attached to the tune when it was collected by Edward Bunting at the end of the 18th century.
