MOUNT SHASTA JIG. AKA - "Mount Shasta Hornpipe." American, "Sand Jig" or Hornpipe (2/4 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABAACAA. "Mount Shasta Jig" was composed by biography:George H. Coes, who, in his blackface minstrel years, was a member of troupes in the San Francisco area. Mount Shasta is a rugged 14,179-ft-high volcanic formation in north-central California, near the border with Oregon. Coes was known to have performed with minstrels in mining camps, perhaps in the Mount Shasta region.
