The jig was first published in Glasgow musician and editor James Aird's 1797 fifth collection. As with many of the tunes from that particular collection, it was entered into the large 1840 music manuscript copybook (p. 241) of multi-instrumentalist John Rook, of Waverton, near Wigton, Cumbria.
