MR. BOSWELL OF AUCHINLECH'S REEL. Scottish, Reel. G Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'B. The tune is attributed to fiddler-composer Biography:John French (1752-1803), of Cumnock, east Ayrshire, and appears in his 1801 Collection of New Strathspeys, Reels, etc., which was dedicated to Boswell's wife. The title probably honors French's comtemporary James Boswell [1], 9th Laird of Auchinleck (1740-1795), most famous as Dr. Johnson's anamnesis.

James Boswell by Sir Joshua Reynolds, 1785
