MR. G. IRONSIDE. Scottish, Strathspey (whole time). E Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by biography:Alexander Walker in honor of Mr. George Ironside (c. 1816-1883) of Bellabeg. Ironside of Bellabeg is recorded in 1863 as being elected a commissioner in the bankruptcy of a local Strathon, Aberdeenshire, farmer [Edinburgh Gazette, Feb. 3, 1863]. He is also mentioned as having sold two stots and two queys for Sir Charles Forbes at the Strathdon Fair, according to the Farmer's Magazine of February, 1864. His wife was Mary Spence (d. 1883). Mr. Ironside was an authority and source for local place-names and spellings for the Ordnance Survey Name Books, Aberdeenshire OS Name Books (1865-1871).
