MR. JOHN BROWN. Scottish, Reel (cut time). A Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. "Mr. John Brown" was composed by Aberdeenshire fiddler-composer and dancing master wikipedia:James_Scott_Skinner (1843-1927). wikipedia:John_Brown_(servant) (1826-1883), originally from Crathie, Aberdeenshire, was an employee of the royal family at Balmoral, the Highland retreat of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. He became Albert's personal ghillie and friend. After Albert's death in 1861, Brown was brought to court as a companion and personal servant to the grief-stricken Victoria, and became a favorite of the Queen. Despite the difference in their stations, he was her friend and confidant, though sometimes resented by others. Skinner, who attended the household at Balmoral in the capacity of teacher of dancing, undoubtedly knew Brown well.
