Deglaty (Delgatie) Castle, Aberdeenshire was in the hands of the Hay family in the mid-18th century, until the bankrupt James Hay, 15th Earl of Erroll, sold Delgaty in 1762 to Peter Garden of Troup (1723-1785, 6th of Troup, later of Glenlyon), who then was styled Peter Garden of Delgaty. Peter married Katherine Balneaves of Glenlyon, heiress of Glenlyon and they later assumed the additional surname of Campbell. In 1798 Delgaty was sold to the Duff family. Mrs. Garden of Delgaty could only have been Katherine.
