MRS. RENNY TAILYOUR'S MINUET. Scottish, Minuet (3/4 time). D Major ('A' and 'B' parts) & D Minor ('C' and 'D' parts). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDD. The title honors Elizabeth Bannerman (Burnett) Tailyour who married Alexander Renny-Tailyour in 1808 in Edinburgh. Alexander wasone of the principal landholders in the parish of Montrose and was described as "Alexander Renny Tailyour of Borrowfield & Newmanswalls." Although his name does not appear with the composition, it may be the work of Montrose and Aberdeenshire dancing master and musician Archibald Duff, in whose c. 1812 collection it appears (Duff also had pieces for other members of the Burnett family in his volume).
