MUNSTER PIPER, THE. Irish, Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCC. From the repertoire of uilleann piper O'Farrell [1], of whom little is known save that he is recorded as having played on the London stage in Oscar and Malvina and other stage productions around the first decade of the 19th century. From various tunes in the contents of his volumes it has been deduced that O'Farrell had Munster connections, although his place of birth, like much else about the musicians, remains a mystery. O'Farrell's setting was entered into the mid-19th century music manuscript copybook of County Cork uilleann piper and Church of Ireland cleric James Goodman [2].
