MWYNEN MÔN (Melody of Mona). Welsh, Almain (2/4 time). A Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune is an almain, a kind of country dance, though usually danced faster than Edward Jones direction of "adagio". "It may be that Jones took this from a written source, and having no notion of its stylistic identity, put it in his 'plaintive' category because of its 'archaic' harmonic foundation and arched melodic contours"[1]. Mona is a hamlet in Anglesey, in northwest Wales.
