NAVAL PILLAR [3]. English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The publisher of this small volume of country dances (numbering 12 rather than 24) for the year 1800 is Henry Thompson, the last of the successful family of London music publishers founded by scion Peter Thompson who began publishing in 1751. Henry was probably a grandson. He, however, ceased publishing around the year 1802, and by 1805-6 the firm of Purday & Button have possession of the business and are publishing from the Thompson address.[1]
