NEIL GOW'S RANT. American, Reel. USA, southwestern Pa. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDDEE. The title would seem to indicate composition by the famous Scots fiddler Niel Gow (1727-1807), however, nothing like it appears in that fiddler's published works. In fact the tune resembles more a pastiche of strathspey-like dotted rhythms and melody.

Source for notated version: John Meighen (elderly fiddler, in his 80's, from Wind Ridge (Jacktown), Greene County, southwest Pa., 1930's) [Bayard].

Printed sources: Bayard (Dance to the Fiddle, March to the Fife), 1981; No. 1, p. 17.
