NEW ALLEMAND [1], THE. English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. One of several different period "New Allemands." This particular tune was also entered into the turn of the 19th century music manuscript collection of British army fife player biography:John Buttery as "The New Allimand, Quick Step" indicating his use of it as a march. Buttery was from Lincolnshire and survived his twenty years service to return home. Later in life he emigrated to Ontario, Canada, taking his music manuscript with him.
