NEW HANOVER SQUARE. English, Country Dance Tune and Jig (6/8 time). D Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody appears in The Third Book of the Compleat Country Dancing-Master, printed in London by John Walsh in 1735 (p. 85) and again in the 1754 edition of the same volume. It also was printed by London publisher John Johnson for dancing master Daniel Wright in his Wright's Compleat Collection of Celebrated Country Dances (1740).
