NEW MINISTRY, THE. English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody was originally published in Charles and Samuel Thompson's third country dance collection (London, 1773). "The New Ministry" was also entered into the 1788 music manuscript collection of flute player Ensign Thomas Molyneaux, 6th Regiment, of Shelburne, Nova Scotia. The title perhaps refers to the return to power of William Pitt the Elder [1] (1708-1778), Prime Minister of Great Britain during the Seven Years War, who again led the ministry between 1766 and 1768 (with the title of Lord Privy Seal).
