NEW STAR, THE. English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody with dance directions was first published by John Hinton in his periodical The Universal Magazine of Knowledge and Pleasure (April, 1750, p. 177). As with all of Hinton's country dances that year, it was republished by London music publisher John Johnson that same year, in his Compleat Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 5 (1750, p. 19).
