NIEL GOW'S DAUGHTER. Scottish, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The famous Scottish fiddler-composer Niel Gow (1727–1807) had five sons and three daughters, all by his first wife, Margaret Wiseman. Sons William, Andrew (1760), Nathaniel (1763) and John (1764) all followed in their father's footsteps to become fiddlers, composers and music publishers. Lesser known are his two daughters, Margaret (1759) and Grizel (1761)--the third daughter's name is not known to us. Margaret lived to be nearly 100 years old, dying in 1855 at age 96.
