NORA O'NEILL [2] (Nora Ni Niall). Irish, Reel. D Major (O'Neill/Krassen): C Major (O'Niell/1850). Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (O'Neill/1850): ABB' (O'Neill/Krassen). O'Neill cites "Mahony" as his source for the reel. There is no mention of a 'Mahony' in O'Neill's Irish Minstrels and Musicians (1913), although most of his contemporary Chicago Irish musicians are given at least brief mention. Donal "Dan" O'Mahony (c. 1777-1857) was the maternal grandfather of compiler and collector Captain Francis O'Neill, and a holder of extensive lands near Drimoleague, County Cork, but whether father-in-law and tune source are one-in-the-same is unknown.

Source for notated version: "Mahony" [O'Neill].

Printed sources: O'Neill (Krassen), 1976; p. 142. O'Neill (Music of Ireland: 1850 Melodies), 1903; No. 1453, p. 269.
